Wonderful performances all around. Especially loved everything about "Rain."
Cool set!
Beautiful, heart-gripping songs.
Neat use of the in-the-round.
But as love-at-first-sight stories go, even this one is a stretch. She's never even spoken to him? Doesn't matter, she's in love. She falls in love with him while he is physically unable to escape her? Doesn't matter, she's in love.
For long stretches, the plot reminded me of another optimistic love story from a couple seasons back: MISERY. Enjoyed it much more than that one, but I wish the writers were able to fix the story somehow for this revival to make this beautiful, hopeful musical seem less, well, like something Stephen King would have written. |
