The show borrows a lot from Hans Christian Andersen's The Little Mermaid, and those elements are present there: the young girl who dreams of seeing a world she's never been a part of falls in love at first sight with an unconscious man from that world after she saves him following a storm. I don't know that anyone thought that needed fixing especially; it just sounds like a story that doesn't work for you.
