| It is a story set in a millennia old patriarchy, ruled by colonialism, and yet it presents a woman who can take heroic action. To me the story needs to function with a believable nod to its own established verisimilitude. In this production it's been reframed thru a contemporary prism, no doubt to answer some of these concerns: the creatives know it's about a disappearing cultural construct, but find the heart in the tale worth telling, with a timeless take away. And again, the protagonist has agency and demonstrates heroism. | |
