| It was either 95 or '99, while on a theater binge in NYC, I left after seeing Judi Dench in AMY'S VIEW, and went down to#######(I forget the name of the restaurant) to see Imelda Staunton's club act/ Just as I came near the entrance, a cab pulled up and Dame Judi, TateDonovan, and other cast members headed into the same restaurant' This was a Tues, and I returned on Friday. A very eclectic grouping of songs, and in oneof the chatter sections, she said something like.'this is not going to be the kind of show where you say I heard my first Sondheim songand my eyes were opened.Ironic , in view of her Sondheim roles before and since,Itwas a wonderful act/ |
