It is a story set in a millennia old patriarchy, ruled by colonialism, and yet it presents a woman who can take heroic action. To me the story needs to function with a believable nod to its own established verisimilitude. In this production it's been reframed thru a contemporary prism, no doubt to answer some of these concerns: the creatives know it's about a disappearing cultural construct, but find the heart in the tale worth telling, with a timeless take away. And again, the protagonist has agency and demonstrates heroism.

Delvino, I always love your posts...but...no. Just no. ;-)

I do not, in any way, think that "the creatives" had anything didactic in mind here, that could or should be so academically and brutally analyzed to death. Thank god, because your lyrics wouldn't have sounded nearly as moving and elemental and primitive and simple as the ones for "Why We Tell The Story." ;-)

(I hope you know I'm having fun with you - though that shouldn't take away from my point either.)

To all of us who have been part of this thread - I think, when we start micro-analyzing a story to this degree, it ceases to be entertaining theatre, and it ceases to be part of the human heart.
