"I don't feel like Staunton's character is well written, but she certainly commits to what she is asked to do, and I think she manages to make a cartoonish figure quite grounded and touching."
I would say the opposite, that she makes a potentially touching character into a ridiculous cartoon. And for what it's worth, that was my unbiased reaction, going into the movie with no knowledge of the story or the character, or of her as an actress. Different strokes! |
