"Meadowlark" Early Lyrics and Other Song Changes
Posted by: DCollingwood 12:19 am EST 11/23/17

So, I was doing some deep diving on the Internet tonight and came across a 1976/Boston version of "Meadowlark". I noticed that the opening lyrics were a bit different than what I am used to hearing now (and only previously knew).

Boston:
When I was a girl I had a favorite story,
of a kind old king who loved a meadowlark.
She sang for him in a voice as bright as glory,
but her eye's were dark.
Blind and dark.

I've only heard these for the first time tonight, after hearing the usual version a million times. I think the older lyrics are fine, but in retrospect can see the fine-tuning of the lyrics in the later version. My question, what other famous/popular songs that we all know might I be surprised to find out had different lyrics in early versions?
