The cartoon series is much like the good Looney Tunes cartoons in that a lot of the humor is geared directly to adults while still managing to entertain the kids. There was a SpongeBob movie that came out in 2004 that pushes the envelope even further. I was skeptical when someone first told me to watch it, but it soon became a guilty pleasure.
That said, what I saw on the telecast looked an awful lot like Seussical, even down to some of the casting. That show had some charms but didn't work as a whole for me. I suspect this will be a similar experience. |
