Stevemr is right. I was referring to the black box Signature production-- I think it was in 2003 or 2004 -- not to Schaeffer's much recent Kennedy Center production, which transferred to Broadway. That black box production was the best Follies I've ever seen.
I saw the Kennedy Center production too, and it was very different. I thought it okay, but not more than okay. When I referred to a bad Broadway revival, I was actually thinking of an earlier production with Treat Williams and Blythe Danner, and Judith Ivey, which really wasn't good. Theyre fine actors but not singers. That production was definitive proof, in case anyone needed it, that Follies needs singers. |
