2011 revival was, for many, a "be happy with what you get" feeling

After the disappointment of the Roundabout revival, I know I was deeply relieved that the 2011 Follies didn't screw things up so much in the directorial department. It wasn't everything it should have been or even could have been, but I found myself saying "well, this is the best production we're going to get right now, and for that I'm grateful" which I didn't didn't say after Roundabout.

To my memory, there were no glaring misinterpretations and no soul-bruising compromises made. It was at least, for the most part, the Follies that Follies should be at the very minimum, which, given Roundabout and the London production in the 80s, I felt grateful to have. I think I preferred the Papermill production overall in terms of staging and acting (i think, adore her as I do, Peters did some disservices to the show in her portrayal of Sally, which McKenchnie did not - Victoria Clark did much better in the LA production of that revival), but I genuinely did think the 2011 production was solid with flashes of brilliance. At this point I'm just happy with that.
