I'm glad you loved it so much - I loved it but wish I was as thoroughly swept away as you were.
But I wanted to just chime in on the script and register my admiration for the screenplay over the book. I think both have issues but the screenplay, in my view, not only fixes several things the book fails at, but I find it funnier too.
Also, for what it's worth, not all Broadway shows *should* send you dancing onto the streets. This is the type of show that does that type of thing well, but it's always a pet peeve of mine how people box musicals into needing to be one specific experience (ie the Hello Dolly experience) because it doesn't allow for the many kinds of incredible experiences different music and stories can provide. But I do love when one does send you out singing and dancing. |
