The song was "Love is only Love". Angela Lansbury sang it in the Philly tryout of MAME. Roger Edens(so I've read) askedJerry Herman for a new song for Babs, hoping for a best song nomination; He ran into Miss Lansbury on a flight, and when she told how happy she was that the song had re-surfaced, he was a little miffed. At least that's my vague recollection of that anecdote.
Odd, though, considering the film opens with a (genuinely) new song for Streisand. |
