| While Benanti has a beautiful voice and accomplished comic chops, I found her vibrato distracting. Her take on Amalia was less sentimental than some others, but at times, for me, also lacked warmth. Still, I think it was an excellent performance on many levels. I agree that Krakowski brought heart, humor, and vulnerability to her performance--I felt for her and was happy when she found her fellow in the library! Odd, because I've become so used to her narcissistic roles on TV, so it is the mark of her as an actress that she could get me to shift to her "corner." All in all, I loved the show on Broadway--I saw the first revival and liked it, though found the Amalia unmemorable (Judy Kuhn was already gone)--very comptent, but didn't stay in my mind. (Diane Fratantoni--I had to look her up.) |
