For the first time ever in a production of SHE LOVES ME, I felt that the whole cafe sequence (the song and dance for the waiters and ensemble before the Georg/Amalia scene) was out of an entirely different show. It even felt odd coming right after the gunshot in the previous scene, which has always been the case...I've just never been so jarred by the change of tone or change of scene before. No idea why that was the case here.
The show is long enough and this scene doesn't mask a costume or scene change behind it, so, in this production, I wish they'd just cut the whole thing and gotten right to the meat of the Georg/Amalia scene. |
