Can you explain why you find it inappropriate? I think we've moved past the idea that criticism is somehow objective, and criticism is also not divorced from the sociopolitical. When I saw Actually over the summer at Williamstown, I actually had similar feelings to Soloski's -- especially given, as she points out, the recent spate in the last couple years of similarly themed plays on this topic, all of which seem to be telling the same story.

You've written several times about your own displeasure with this particular critic -- not meaning to call you out in any way, but could your bias have affected how you received this essay?
