I remain surprised that Jerry Herman never thought his comment about the "hummable show tune" (when he won the Best Score Tony for La Cage aux Folles) would be perceived as a slam against Stephen Sondheim.
Ha! I agree...though it also depends perhaps on whether that was something he said off the cuff or whether it was a written (i.e. premeditated) part of his acceptance speech.
I do understand what he was actually trying to say...but it definitely didn't sound that way in context. |
