| The unanimity on this subject is far less than the megaphone of social media would have you believe. The vast majority I've spoken to (male, female, straight, gay, of all ages, in and out of "the business") have varying reactions along the spectrum of the sudden hysteria being unfocused, overgeneralized, one-sided, naive, disingenuous to varying degrees, and the Salem/McCarthy elements susceptible to political or professional weaponization – and – especially from the perspective of someone like Lansbury who's been in the biz for 75 years, hardly news. I got the impression she isn't thrilled with the inherent "all women are powerless victims and all men are pigs" implication of the current bandwagon. Little discussed is the second half of her commentary: "Lansbury went on to clarify that she doesn’t think sexual harassment is justifiable. 'Should women be prepared for this? No, they shouldn’t have to be!' she said. 'There’s no excuse for that. And I think it will stop now – it will have to. I think a lot of men must be very worried at this point.'” |
