I saw this years ago with NYU actors. Back then, it was really just a showcase for the actors more than it was a fully fleshed out play of ideas. I seem to recall needing to appreciate the form of sprawling Russian literature to get what the playwright was trying to do; all that interweaving plot and heightened emotion and love and death.
I am not returning to see it at Atlantic because someone I trust said the direction was totally wrong and the cast uneven. Three hours is a long time to sit through something poorly directed and miscast.
