I don't know that we will ever see a play top 1,000 performances ever again - or even get to 800 performances if truth be told. Certainly the record of longest running play in Broadway history, held by LIFE WITH FATHER, will never be topped.

I wouldn't be so pessimistic. The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time just got finished playing an 800-performance run on Broadway (okay, officially 799 regular performances, but there were also previews). Somehow, fine as it was, I doubt that that was the biggest hit play we're ever going to see on Broadway for the remainder of our lives. The only thing one can ever predict with certainty about the future is that no situation or set of circumstances lasts forever.
