No one was questioning your ability to seek out bargains, which was not the subject at hand.
Actually, it's a direct response to the claim that people "were willing to sit through a lot of things they wouldn't sit through now (at today's Broadway prices), because they didn't have to spend their life savings to do it."
Direct responses are also a time-honored rhetorical device. |
