The crowd on opening night leapt to its feet for "Bright Star" - in part, I think, because creators Steve Martin and Edie Brickell gave them a happy ending after the horrific event just before intermission. Though the audience (and not a few local critics) were enchanted, it left my emotional buttons bruised after being pushed so hard.
