Today I got one of those routine "updates" e-mails from BroadwayWorld.com, with the latest theatre headlines and links to stories.
I was very surprised to see, at two different locations in the e-mail, ads with the tag line "Do you oppose impeachment?" with a button to "Vote Now." Underneath, it says "Reeclect Donald J. Trump President" and, at the bottom, "Paid for by the committee to defend the President Not paid for by any candidate or candidates committee."
Due to the overwhelming opposition to Trump in the theatre community, I found it surprising that anyone would think of running an ad like that in such an outlet. I also found it hard to believe that Broadwayworld would run it, even if some "committee" paid for it. The e-mail was otherwise all links to articles; the only other advertisement was for a theatre-related charity benefit.
Did anyone else get this or notice it? Could there have been hacking involved? I'm puzzled by this and would be interested in any information or insights. Thanks! |
