| What's your nominee for a complete unnecessary song in a major show (not some flop in which almost everything could be called unnecessary.)? I'm talking the musical equivalent of Hamburger Helper, something thrown in, often in the second act, to stretch the show out. My nominee would be HAPPY IN THE MORNING from WOMAN OF THE YEAR, the number the Russian ballet star sings to the lead, Bacall, to teach her how to be a happy person. Never understood why they didn't drop it out of town. Maybe the star needed to rest her vocal chords. |
