| The marketing decision to label almost every play "a comedy" or to use sub-leads that hail the humor, was a technique used often in the 1990s. Everything seemed pitched to be something to make you smile. I'd thought that finally ebbed. But even the title of this play promises something other than "sidesplitting." I believe it's a mistake to mislead. It's actually worse: it's a lie. This play isn't a comedy, not even a Chekhovian one, not at its core. |
