(Dec 4) While carrying a pile of original Broadway cast recordings of every show that ever played the Shubert Theatre, actress Bette Midler dropped them and shattered them all!!
The cache of recordings, specially preserved by the Shubert management, had been loaned to Ms. Midler to play on her day off at her cottage in Wanakonda Lake, New York. A faulty heel on Ms. Milder's Ferragamo shoe is blamed for the accident which saw more than 200 original vinyl recordings, several irreplacable, clattering to ground, with shards skittering as far as Junior's.
Some have questioned the "accident" as a mere publicity stunt because Ms. Midler, on learning that a bootleg recording of "Rachel Lily Rosenbloom and Don't You Ever Forget It," was still in the Shubert (tho the show played the Broadhurst), ran into the theatre, dragged the record out and stomped on it.
"There," she exclaimed, " now I've really shattered every record in the Shubert Theatre. Put that in your release!" |
