| PLAYWRIGHTS HORIZONS IS NOW ACCEPTING “LIVE for FIVE” LOTTERY ENTRIES STARTING TODAY, MONDAY, DECEMBER 4, FOR $5 TICKETS TO THE FIRST PREVIEW OF THE WORLD PREMIERE OF MANKIND A NEW PLAY WRITTEN AND DIRECTED BY TWO-TIME OBIE AWARD WINNER ROBERT O’HARA “LIVE for FIVE” Ticketing Initiative Makes Available $5 Tickets for the First Performance of Every Production at Playwrights Horizons via an Online Ticket Lottery at www.phnyc.org Previews begin Friday, December 15 Playwrights Horizons (Tim Sanford, Artistic Director; Leslie Marcus, Managing Director) begins accepting entries today, Monday, December 4, for the LIVE for FIVE online lottery for $5 tickets to the world premiere of MANKIND, a new play written and directed by two-time Obie Award winner Robert O’Hara (Bootycandy, Bella: An American Tall Tale at Playwrights; Barbecue, In the Continuum, The Brother/Sister Plays). Commissioned by Playwrights Horizons, the play will be the third production of the theater company’s 2017/2018 Season. The LIVE for FIVE lottery for MANKIND will be for tickets to the first preview on Friday evening, December 15 at 8PM at Playwrights Horizons’ Mainstage Theater (416 West 42nd Street). The production has an Opening Night set for Monday, January 8 at 7PM and will play a limited engagement through Sunday, January 28. Celebrating over a decade, LIVE for FIVE was created by Playwrights Horizons in 2007 as part of their Arts Access program to reach out to those who may not be able to afford the cost of a full-price theater ticket. The ticketing initiative makes a limited number of $5 tickets available for the first preview performance of each Playwrights Horizons production through a lottery via the company’s website (www.phnyc.org). Since its inception, over 2,000 theatergoers have been able to attend the theater thanks to the LIVE for FIVE initiative. Details for the LIVE for FIVE lottery are as follows: beginning today, Monday, December 4 at 12 Noon, theatergoers can enter the lottery by filling out an entry form at www.phnyc.org/L45. Entries will be accepted until Thursday, December 7 at 12 Noon. Winners of the lottery will be notified via email no later than 3PM on Thursday, December 7 with instructions on how to book their $5 tickets. Unclaimed tickets will be offered via email to a limited standby list starting at 12 Noon on Friday, December 8 on a first-come, first-served basis. One or two tickets may be purchased by winners for $5 each. The cast of MANKIND features two-time Tony Award nominee, Emmy Award and Obie Award winner André De Shields (The Wiz, Ain’t Misbehavin’, The Full Monty, Play On!), Bobby Moreno (Grand Concourse at Playwrights, Fulfillment Center, Lazarus, The Year of the Rooster), Anson Mount (Corpus Christi, Three Sisters, star of the series “Hell on Wheels,” “Marvel’s Inhumans” and “Conviction”), Stephen Schnetzer (Oslo, Wit, The Goat or Who Is Sylvia?, Filomena), Ariel Shafir (Medea in Jerusalem, Craft, The Pirandello Project, “Orange Is the New Black”) and David Ryan Smith (One Man, Two Guvnors; Passing Strange; Twelfth Night; Marat/Sade). Mark (Mr. Mount) and Jason (Mr. Moreno) were keeping things casual until Jason got pregnant. But however unplanned the pregnancy was, nothing could be less expected than the chain of events it would set in motion. Robert O’Hara’s audacious, hilarious allegory envisions an uncannily familiar future – one long after women have gone extinct from centuries of mistreatment – where man’s capacity to f**k everything up soars to new heights. The production will feature scenic design by Tony Award winner Clint Ramos, costume design by Dede M. Ayite, lighting design by Alex Jainchill, original music and sound design by Lindsay Jones, video design by Jeff Sugg and hair, wig and makeup design by J. Jared Janas and Dave Bova. Production Stage Manager is Erin Gioia Albrecht. MANKIND was commissioned by Playwrights Horizons with the support of the Harold and Mimi Steinberg Charitable Trust. The performance schedule for MANKIND will be Tuesdays and Wednesdays at 7PM, Thursdays and Fridays at 8PM, Saturdays at 2:30 & 8PM and Sundays at 2:30 & 7:30 PM. Single tickets, $39-$89, may be purchased online via www.phnyc.org, by phone at (212) 279-4200 (Noon-8pm daily) and in person at the Ticket Central Box Office, 416 West 42nd Street (between Ninth & Tenth Avenues).
