| Agree with the many here who have enjoyed this. A perfect example of how vivid, buoyant direction can elevate material that otherwise wouldn't shine as brightly. The show is beautifully cast and performed. And the Afro-Caribbean inspired choreography by Camille A. Brown is superbly apt, luscious even. One caveat: the sound design needs improvement. Lyrics are too often muffled, buried behind an overamplified band, most especially when the chorus is singing. This said, it's a testament to Arden that the storytelling is nonetheless very clear. This is a musical, of course, but it's the production's physical lyricism that really sings. |
