I thought I had selected a performance when all the principals would be there. (I saw it in London with Nobelzada and was impressed and wanted to see it again.) I ended up with the understudies of the understudies in the main roles. It is a production in shambles. I took someone who was unfamiliar with the show. He was unable to understand the dialog and lyrics as performed by the leads. He thought he was losing his hearing. When I pointed out that he could understand the actor playing the Engineer, it was clear that the problem was not with his hearing but with the performers who both couldn't articulate the words nor sing the notes. They had Chris actor on such a reverb that all his words -- if he did actually try some articulation -- smeared together. And the acting was embarrassing.

Equally, some of the other performers who have been doing it for a long time showed bored sloppiness.

If the producers cannot find performers to do those roles, they should close the show. If you have seen a good production of this in the past, I wouldn't bother going back; it would sour you on it. If you have not seen it before or have not studied the lyrics via the album, you will likely have a hard time following it because the performance is so sloppy that you won't be able to understand what is going on. And, yes, it is that bad.
