It is clear that it had enough of an impact on who you are, that even without disclosing this, you "found" each other. A friend who works in the field (and has personal experience) said it is shocking how often people who grew up with alcoholic parents, were raped, experienced house-fires, etc. often find that when they reveal their experience find that many of their friends had a similar experience. Without knowing it consciously they found each other.
I keep trying to tell myself that this stuff in the past did not mean as much, did not have much impact. Then I read sentences like yours and realize it has an impact, even if we are not conscious of it. |
