The name of the play is HANGMEN, not THE HANGMEN.
I saw it twice at the Court from the very front of the stalls and the very back of the circle. I found the back of the circle to be very far away but the Court is, of course, nothing like the Atlantic. (I saw BEAUTY QUEEN at the Atlantic in the last row- sitting next to Neil Simon & Elaine Joyce!- and it felt very intimate.)
I expect the design will have to be changed because -
[SPOILER ALERT] -
I doubt the Atlantic has the capacity to replicate the amazing set change from the prisoner's cell to the bar. At the Court it was a breathtaking tour-de-force of stagecraft and technology.
[END OF SPOILER ALERT].
I see the cast is largely new. Mark Addy is a very different actor than David Morrissey, who I always find brings real menace with him onstage. Addy is a more loveable elf, which isn't a bad personality for the role.
Reece Shearsmith, Johnny Flynn and Sally Rogers were all wonderful and are coming for the production.
Thanks for reminding me. I may try and see it again. |
