| I too love Brian Friel, yet this is clearly one of his lesser works (clocks in at about 85 minutes of stage time-with a padded intermission) Like many great playwrights, a lesser work by them is better than newer works by most others. There were glimmers of brilliance that kept me engaged throughout, yet I was reminded of Arthur Miller, Tennessee Williams and Sam Sheppard who's work I have seen in their waning years; enjoyed the plays for who wrote them and to better understand their body of work, not necessarily for the play I was watching on stage. If you are a Friel fan then it is a MUST see! |
