Like Buddy would ever use the word "avers" in "The Right Girl"; even Margie say "Avers?"
Buddy never uses "avers" in "The Right Girl." ;-) (It's in "Buddy's Blues," of course, lol.)
Nor is it Margie - it's Sally.
But that's exactly it - I've always thought that Sally's response could be a dual joke - she may not understand the word herself, but she's also questioning Buddy's use of it.
Much on the same level as Fay, in "Come Play Wiz Me," in her French disguise, coming up with "imperturbable perspicacity" and then trying to make excuses for it - and Hapgood's later ironic response in claiming she has "unmistakable authenticity." ;-) |
