This sounds like a specific subset of the broader genre of memory play. Brian Friel (Dancing at Lughnasa) and Tennessee Williams (The Glass Menagerie) are probably the most-often cited authors of such things, and people like to argue about Pinter.

L. P. Hartley's 'The Go-Between' is a novel that uses a similar structure, and Nick Enright's original book for 'The Boy From Oz' is a musical example (I'm not familiar with the re-written version for Broadway).

Also, when you get down to it, almost all of 'Wicked' is Glinda's description of major events in Elphaba's life to the Ozian throng, on the occasion of the WWOE's death.
