  • Last week, which ended December 10, Broadway grosses totaled $35,260,255 for 32 shows.

In the prior week, which ended December 3, Broadway grosses totaled $29,982,847 for 30 shows.

In the comparable week last year, Broadway grosses totaled $31,357,490 for 32 shows.

  • As in the comparable week a year ago, there were 32 shows on the boards. This year Broadway grossed about $4 million more for the same number of shows. Most of that was due to very high ticket prices as, for example, Springsteen on Broadway. However, it should be noted that attendance was down almost 5% last week from the same week a year ago. Not a healthy situation for the long term.

    — Farinelli and the King, starring Mark Rylance who is back on Broadway for the first time in 4 years,, was off to a good start at the Belasco Theatre for its first 7 previews. The play grossed $767,377 or 94% of its potential.

    — The Band’s Visit continues to sell out, the only open-ended show of the 2017-18 season so far that has numbers indicating a long run.
