though she was also wonderful in "Maudie". I guess they think "Shape of Water" has more commercial possibilities and had to choose between the 2 performances for award consideration. The film is very imaginative, has a fairy tale / sci-fi / thriller / "Beauty and the Beast" aspect to it and even includes some clips and homage to old musicals and early '60s tv in its telling. The acting is terrific, and visually it is awesome.
