The Greatest Showman has received 3 Golden Globes nominations. Part of is thanks to some Broadway connections.
*The cast includes actors who have appeared on a Broadway stage -- Hugh Jackman/Michelle Williams/Keala Settle/Will Swenson
*The musical score was composed by current Tony winners ( Dear Evan Hansen) Benj Pasek and Justin Paul.
*Probably not much talked about was the fact that the many workshops that helped shape the movie included the participation of Broadway musical theatre actors ( Sutton Foster, Aaron Tveit, Keala Settle/Jeremy Jordan/Cynthia Erivo/ Allison Huff/Caroline Bowman/Andrew Keenan Bolger/Natalie Weiss/etc).
The movie seems like a melding of 3 art forms - film, musical theatre, and pop music. A contemporary tone to a period story, viewed through the artistry of filmmaking! Is this a wave of the future? |
