| It's a superb play (easily Lucy Kirkwood's best) and very Caryl Churchill-esque in its gently inflected view of catastrophe -- no surprise it's directed by a Churchill regular and that it premiered on the same Royal Court mainstage that CC has long called home. I would imagine it's too delicate and elusive for MTC patrons, but then so - it seems - is most theatre these days in Manhattan: the last time I was in town, I saw Hello, Dolly! at a Wednesday matinee and counted four people near me who were sleeping. I guess there was just not enough action onstage to keep them occupied. Oh well, their loss. |
