| I think I found the proverbial pot of gold at the end of the rainbow.. I went to the theater on Friday to check the callout board - No callouts. So, I bought a last minute ticket. Jon Jon, Alistair, and Eva were all in - And they were great! I had friends see the show the next day and really complained. I think this may be a case that the whole is greater than the sum of its parts. And if one of those parts is missing, it's a real problem. Eva was a knockout. The challenge with Kim is finding danger inside of innocence. She really gets that and her voice held throughout the show. I really don't know how she does it. She falls into some pop/glottal pop stuff every once in awhile, which Alistair and Eva together were like firecrackers together. My friends didn't like Alistair - It's not a voice for everyone, but he was working hard up there and I enjoyed the intensity. I think he was having trouble getting through the whole show with his voice, but it added to the drama. Jon Jon was a great actor, but realllly hard to understand. I was happy I knew the show already. The first 20 minutes was a horrible sound mess. In fact, any time that the full stage/full cast mics were on, it turned into a bad FM station. It was really bad. But in the small numbers where only one, two, three people were involved, the sound totally changed. It was raw, little reverb - almost intimate. These moments were great. So, I think I kind of agree with everyone commenting on both sides here... The sound is bad in some places. The leads are great, but the understudies maybe not so. They do all still perform sometimes (I saw them!) - and I feel I was lucky to get that 6th row center seat an hour before showtime. k |
