I was also going to mention that based on what appears in the original script, there's nothing to indicate Stella was the type of person who filtered her fellow performers through a caste system mentality; looking on someone as "only" a showgirl is a quality that never came across in her dialogue. That's why it struck me as such an odd addition when I first saw it in 2001.
I'll be catching a screening of the National Theater production this weekend; I'm sure it will be an interesting experience. |
