| ACTORS FROM “THE PLAY THAT GOES WRONG,” AMORALISTS, and MORE ANNOUNCED FOR “AN URBAN HOLIDAY PARTY” EVENT DECEMBER 18. Alex Mandell (“Max” in the current Broadway hit “The Play That Goes Wrong”), The Amoralists Theatre Company Founding Director James Kautz, and cast members from world premieres of the Christmastime-set “Nibbler,” “Sense of an Ending” and “A Guide for the Homesick,” have been announced to participate in AN URBAN HOLIDAY PARTY, the free public event hosted by playwright Ken Urban at the Drama Book Store’s Arthur Seelen Theatre (250 West 40th Street, Manhattan) on Mon., December 18 from 5:30-7:00 pm. Mandell joins Kautz (who created the role of Adam) and two other original cast members of Urban’s “Nibbler” – Matt Lawler and Elizabeth Lail (NBC’s “The Blacklist”) – as well as Rachel Franco and Alex Gould for a scene-reading of that play. Heather Alicia Simms, who originated the role of Sister Justina in the world premiere cast of Urban’s widely acclaimed “Sense of an Ending” (and was in Broadway’s “Vanya and Sonia and Masha and Spike,” “Gem of the Ocean,” and “A Raisin in the Sun”) is joined by McKinley Belcher III (HBO’s “Show Me A Hero”, PBS’ “Mercy Street”) and Dina Marie Ingraham (“Motown the Musical” and “Spiderman: Turn Off the Dark”) for a scene from Urban’s Rawanda-set drama. Belcher also will perform in a scene from Urban’s “A Guide for the Homesick” (in which he created the dual role of Teddy/Nicholas in the Huntington Theatre Company world premiere earlier this season) with Alex Gould. In a review of the play, which centers on a chance meeting by two Americans returning home after suffering traumas abroad, The Boston Globe said “Belcher delivers one of the most searing performances in recent memory on a local stage.” After the readings, Urban and the cast members will take questions. A reception with refreshments – including nibbles – will follow. Gift-sets of Urban’s plays will be offered for sale, and attendees will receive a specially designed, limited-edition tote bag by The Dan Pecci Company to hold their purchases. Urban’s next world premiere, “The Remains,” will be produced in May 2018 at the Studio Theater in Washington DC. Earlier this year, he was named head of playwriting at Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) and sold a television pilot to the American arm of the UK’s ITV network. Last week Urban’s band Occurrence released a holiday tune, “The Time of Year.” It is available for streaming on iTunes, Apple Music, Bandcamp, Soundcloud and Spotify. |
