| I caught the evening performance. I had such fond memories if the original production. The elegance of the direction and the sets and the interaction between B.D. and Lithgow. What a missed opportunity for an exciting night. At points, I felt like I was watching a high school production. It was clumsy and bulky. I did enjoy Clive Owen, but found Jin Ha to be very unconvincing as a woman. The biggest issue for me, beside the lack of inspiration in the production as a whole, was that I didn't believe the Gallimard's obsession with Song. There was no time really spent developing the attraction or seduction in a way that would let us believe why Gallimard would give up so much for Song. I vividly remember B.D. Wong's seduction of Lithgow. Really just uninspired. |
