It is one of my favorites as well. Saw it the year it played on Broadway. Then saw the national tour in Hartford and Boston (twice) the following year. Saw the Papermill production (twice) and the Walnut St. Theater production. Then saw the non-equity national tour the following year in Waterbury, CT. Saw the same tour this year in Worcester, MA and Hartford, CT. I have loved it every time I have seen it. I also watched the original Broadway cast in Sept. at the Lincoln Center TOFT (that cast cannot be beat!).
My fear is the TV version will ruin it. I have my fingers crossed but I was not pleased when Broderick was announced (he is so stiff and robotic and lacks any emotion) and I am not impressed with the contemporary sound of "Count on Christmas". And I wonder if Maya Rudolph can exude any warmth as the mother. Hoping for the best! |
