| "The special, based on the 1983 movie, drew a 1.5 rating among adults 18-49 and just shy of 4.5 million viewers. In January 2016, “Grease Live” posted a 4.3 and 12.18 million viewers." This is the lowest-ever for a live musical. Not terrible considering FOX's low-ratings benchmarks but a huge disappointment when compared to the network's previous live musical (Grease) and the most-recent live musical on broadcast TV, Hairspray Live (almost 10M viewers.) |

| Here are the rankings of nine of these live TV musicals over the past four years (although two of them were not actually live) as determined by Rotten Tomatoes. "A Christmas Story Live" has the lowest viewership of any of the other eight, and it's judged critically "rotten" at 43 percent. The only ones judged to be worse were "Rocky Horror" and "Dirty Dancing." |

| One of the major problems is this isn't a classic musical. No one knows these tunes. The film is a classic and that's what people were hoping to see. So I'm sure a lot of people said, "Bye,Felicia," and switched to SOM. I kept switching back and forth. Had to hear Mother Abbess ask, "What is it you can't face?" | |

| What do you expect when you couldn't even understand the lyrics of what the girl was singing in the opening number...a real turn-off. TERRIBLE sound balance...what were they thinking?? It was a ZERO compared to the Broadway production. Waste of time.... | |

| you couldn't even understand the lyrics of what the girl was singing in the opening number. Huh? I remember having a high old time during Bebe's song! That was the least of this production's problems. |

| Too bad. I loved it. I see a repeat of The Sound Of Music on ABC beat them in total viewers. |

| I guess i don't watch much fox tv or it wasn't advertised well. I even missed it on this site not realizing the post yesterday was for last night. Doesn't sound like I missed much. It's not on demand yet. I wonder if it will be rebroadcast. I did search for Kennedy center honors yesterday and programmed my dvr for recording it next week. So I won't miss that. |

| Well promoted in advance, but then the ball was dropped closer to airtime? | |

| That was my take. When I mentioned it yesterday, people were surprised it was on "already." Several thought it was next weekend. And the 7 p.m. start was perhaps not felicitous for those using Sunday as a major shopping day. Getting everyone home, fed and down in front of the TV(s) (I'm dealing with that cliche because some iteration of it still exists) is not easy. 8 p.m. would've felt more comfortable. But finishing at 11, admittedly, would not be ideal. Another case for stating: 3 hours is too long. And with the attenuated storytelling, it seemed to be stuck in its start-up forever. It seemed to take half the evening to the tree purchasing scene. |
