| people might want to be reminded that Sonny and Cher modeled their act on Keely's and Louis Prima's famous nightclub act. Keely Smith had such a glorious voice and great stage presence. I'm rather surprised that someone didn't star her in a Broadway show along the way. Here's the first color clip I've ever seen of her then-husband Louis Prima and Keely doing "That Old Black Magic". Notice the deadpan manner which Cher appropriated from Keely. RIP. |

| I saw her live several times in the 1990s, she was a big part of the Lounge Music revival. What an amazing, smooth and creamy voice she had--and she could belt with the best of them. When I heard the news of her death, I immediately put on her Christmas album. It's quite charming. Thanks for posting the clip! | |

| So sorry to learn this. Keely was a favorite of mine. I last saw her perform at Birdland. She even asked the audience if they had any requests. I asked for It's Been A Long, Long Time. During the piano solo part she turned to the pianist (her son-in-law) and I heard her tell him, "I hate this song." Oh, well. The gal had gumption. RIP. | |

| Very Sad. One of my favorite singers from that generation. Anyone notice that she had an odd way with pronouncing lyrics? Doesn't matter, love love loved her. She made 3 recordings for Concord Records very late, maybe 1990's or so, one a tribute to her good friend Frank Sinatra. I guess its the right night to pull one of the shelf and shed a tear for another bright star lost. She must have been way up there in years, probably in her 90s. Rest in Peace, Keely. | |

| According to an article in the Palm Springs paper today, Keely Smith was 89 and died of heart failure after a long period of declining health. | |

| love those latter era recordings, especially her killer "Kansas City"! Also noticed her pronunciation occasionally on words like "house". | |

| Go to YouTube and listen to her performance of "When Day Is Done." Magnificent. This recording has been championed recently by Jonathan Schwartz. | |
