If they reinstate "Love is Only Love" from the movie

Didn't they already do enough harm with "Penny In My Pocket?"

She's gonna cry during the set change after "Put On Your Sunday Clothes" but only the stage crew and the dressers will see it.

She's going to put on her Sunday clothes, then go to a zoo that HAS chimpanZEES. Then she'll cry. ;-)

I think "Penny in My Pocket" works quite well in the current production in that it adds a sweet touch for the final scene when Horace takes the penny from his pocket and gives it to Dolly.

The song is much needed. Horace has always been underwritten and lacked a needed amount of pathos. I'm glad they have restored the song though I think its' placement in plot and proceedings might be a bit bizarre.

"I'm glad they have restored the song though I think its' placement in plot and proceedings might be a bit bizarre."

I think at first the placement seemed a bit odd to me, as well as the fact that DHP sings the song directly to the audience. But now I think the placement at the start of Act II is fine. As for the other thing, Horace addresses the audience directly in his lines before "It Takes a Woman," and in the song itself. Plus Dolly addresses the audience directly at the very end of the show ("Money, money, money..."). So I don't have a problem with that, either.

True. If the book were different, Horace should sing it to Cornelius and Barnaby as sort of a "lesson" but that really would not fit the rest of the book as it now exists. "Explaining" to the audience works fine as long as it is delivered with the tempered panache that DHP conjures.

There's still "Just Leave Everything To Me" and the two Ethel Merman songs ready for a star to choose from as well. "Penny in My Pocket" is a bit of an earworm actually; I don't mind it, and it gives a star Horace (or one who can actually sing) something more to sing.

I would sit through another 15 minutes more just to hear those beautiful songs Ethel Merman had written for her in her show sung by Ms. Peters. She is going to be a knock-out, tear(s) and all. I wish I could see it all happen in person but I'm afraid I'll have to hear everything from you guys who have tickets. I'm hoping they make a new recording with her in the show. Please, please...
