| This may surprise you, but I remember Ethel Merman had a brief moment of tears when she did the show, and it may have been during the "Ephraim, let me go" speech before "Parade." Let me try to do some research before I write anything more about this, or if someone here knows what I'm talking about and remembers it clearly, please feel free to chime in. | |

| Yeah, I'm pretty sure you're right on that one...and gettin' a tear outta Ethel was no easy feat but I truly recall seeing it happen on TV (maybe "The Mike Douglas Show" from Philly ?) "Haven't I Ephraim???" |

| Merman herself copped to that one in her autobiography...she said it was because Douglas surprised her by having her grandchildren join her on the show. | |
