| For what it's worth, the lost musicals series here in Chicago (Porchlight Revisits) tackled it a couple years ago and received a warm response from critics and audiences. (Full disclosure: I directed it.) This series presents all the titles with a 'warts-and-all' mentality, so more-or-less as a time capsule, exactly as they were when they opened on Broadway, which means most audiences are there simply to enjoy the opportunity of experiencing a show they wouldn't otherwise get to see. A slightly different set of expectations from the permanent pre-Broadway tryout vibe of an Encores production. Still, it was one of the few shows we've done in the 5 years of the series that had audience members remarking on how much they enjoyed the material rather than dissecting it's flaws. |
