| When I first heard about this show, I'll be honest, my eyes rolled. When I saw who wrote the score I was impressed but not motivated to buy a ticket. When I read the reviews I was somewhat impressed, but sill not interested in seeing this. That said, Im not a fan of (or barely know) the TV show. I also don't want to see a show fail. Is it selling? What are thoughts on its longevity ? Thanks! |

| Their rush is, by modern day standards, surprisingly affordable. Has anyone had experience with it? Any sense of how late in the day one can get there and still get a good pair? Where are the seats? Hope this is the right spot to ask. I can't remember if this board has a specific rush section and nothing jumped out when I did a quick look at the navigation. |

| $30 is for mezz, generally very far back based on my and friends' experiences. Still a fine view and a great deal. For $75 they'll sell you rush in the orch. The matinees are selling well, but in the evenings it seems you can just walk up whenever and get them. |

| I saw SPONGEBOB from approx. seventh row orchestra, and I had the feeling throughout the show that it would be a better experience to sit much further back, because there's so much going on onstage that would be easier to take in from a greater distance -- and also because the show is played very big and broad and loud. I can only speculate, but I think rear mezz would be fine for this show. | |

| I'm stunned by the reviews. I'm quite familiar with the cartoon and my kids are fans. We all were "meh" on the musical. It did nothing for us. Although they throw every dollar at you, it simply is missing something. I'm not surprised it's not selling. I don't want to see a show fail either, but man, the praise for this show (other than Ethan Slater, who was fantastic) escapes me. | |

| But $758k last week is only 52% of gross for the first full week after opening. Not that good even if it was an increase from the previous week which included opening night comps. At $750k, the show is only breaking even. It will need to hit a million to really stay open for a long time. I wonder how much merchandise it is selling. Disney shows make a lot of money on the merchandise. | |

|
| the key is how bad the advance is for jan-feb, and how much confidence they have that they will find a corner of the spring market against admittedly stronger pedigrees. merch will not carry the show. and of course another factor will be what they intend to do beyond Broadway. this is not what they dreamed about in those boardrooms. | |

| Ben Brantley said that if you haven't seen the cartoon, the musical will "test your patience." So my husband and I are going to skip it. | |

| I could not disagree more! I have never seen the cartoon and went to see the musical last summer in Chicago simply out of curiosity. I loved it so much I immediately bought tickets to see it a second time before it left town! Honestly, I think It's the most joyous new musical since HAIRSPRAY. |

| I had fun at "Mormon", but it didn't remotely send me out on the kind of high that "Hairspray" did. | |

| I think the closing number of Mormon is on par with You Can't Stop the Beat. Listen to it again. Why are Mormons happy, it's because we know there's a latter day tomorrow! And the question is: what is more joyous? Mormon or SpongeBob? Can anyone speak to that? | |

| The Mormons may be happy and joyous in that finale, but I wasn't. And as I read it, the question was: what was the last high water mark for joyousness on Broadway? I would agree that it was "Hairspray". For me, "Mormon" is working too hard with too little return, and the story (such as it is) is messy and poorly structured. Of course, that may well prove to be true of "SpongeBob". | |

|
| No. The statement was that Spongebob is the most joyous musical SINCE Hairspray and I suggested Mormon was the most joyous musical since Hairspray. So the question was is Spongebob as joyous as Mormon. | |

| Not quite. The statement was that Spongebob was the most joyous musical SINCE Hairspray, and you remarked that Mormon is pretty damn joyous. That can be interpreted to mean that Mormon is the new benchmark for most joyous, but that isn't the only interpretation based on the words you used... particularly for those of us who didn't find Mormon to be all that joyous. Frankly, if Spongebob is only as joyous as Mormon, I'll be disappointed, but I'm in the minority. This a fairly semantic and unimportant disagreement, but if you're going to draw a line in the sand over it, I have to point it out. |

| I haven't seen Mormon since before it opened, but SpongeBob is just a nonstop, silly, giddy kind of joy. Mormon, as I remember it, is fun and funny and has some moments, but it's not that grinning-like-a-fool kind of thing. | |

| I never watched the cartoon and found the show long and tedious. Maybe if it was 90 minute show, it would have been better. Is liked the tap dance number in then second act and the balls thrown through the gadgets. I liked the lead and that he wasn't dressed as a sponge. But the volcano plot line was way too thin to sustained 2.5 hours. For me, it was a monday night and not much wasted. If I had used a precious Friday night slot, I would have been pissed. | |

| Several reviewers said similar things, but it wasn't my experience. My guess is that if you go into it with that mindset, it will be. Or if you can't avoid feeling like everybody else is getting something you're not, it will be. Another thing several reviewers said: just go with it. |

| Interesting quote to pull. I hadn't seen the cartoon and the musical certainly tested my patience. i absolutely found things to enjoy, but at the same time it seemed way too long to me. I got restless and found it a little tedious, but at the same time I can't really say it was terrible. | |

| Was never a SpongeBob fan, and rolled my eyes every time I heard about it. Then a friend who's a Tina Landau devotee dragged me; we got $30 rush tickets right before curtain. And guess what? It really is a joy, like everyone is saying. A classic-style musical, fun and easy to follow, with lots of laughs, likable characters, and a gorgeous score that's enlivened by some of the smartest and most creative costuming and set design I've ever seen. That said, it certainly does not seem to be selling, and I'm not sure how long it'll hold on. The house I saw it with this week was enraptured, so I hope WOM picks up. Honestly, I suggest you grab a discounted ticket and make a visit before it floats away. |
