I saw the original production at Curve. The Frankel-Korie score was mostly gorgeous, and there were lovely performances from Julian Ovenden and Rosalie Craig. There were a couple of things that didn't work, but it was a tryout production, and that's what tryout productions are for. The show I saw needed tweaking, not a top-down rewrite and an entirely new score. One of Ovenden's big solos - 'Suddenly' - can be heard in the clip linked below.
On the evidence of the cast recording, Gary Barlow's score is vastly inferior to the score Weinstein threw out.
