Harvey Weinstein and/or the Weinstein Company has above the title credit on 43 Broadway shows, dating back to the 2000 revival of THE REAL THING. The Vanity Fair article notes that most of the successes amongst these shows were revivals, and they draw conclusions from this. Well, sure.
Except in reviewing the billing for these 43 shows, as far as I can tell, the only one of these 43 shows that Harvey actually produced was FINDING NEVERLAND. Unless you're a General Partner/Managing Member, you have no control over the production legally or otherwise - no matter how loudly one might shout or bully.
The mention THE PRODUCERS and BILLY ELLIOTT as two hits Mr Weinstein produced. Rocco LAndesman, SFX, and Frankel/Baruch/Viertel/Routh were the producers of record on THE PRODUCERS as far as I am aware (I may be incorrect). On BILLY ELLIOTT they had a 'produced in association' credit - they weren't actual producers in any manner.
I'm certainly willing to be corrected, but I do not believe Mr Weinstein would never be number two to anyone. In any event, the only one of the 43 Broadway productions where his billing is in a General Partner position was FINDING NEVERLAND.
Mr Weinstein produced one Broadway show. Was an investor/co-producer on 42 others. |
